Dr. Ramesh Pillai obtained his PhD from the University of Bern, Switzerland in 2002, and continued his postdoctoral research at the Friedrich Miescher Institute, Basel. In 2006, he began his independent career as a research group leader at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Grenoble, France. His group works on molecular mechanisms underlying the role of germline small RNAs in suppression of transposable elements. This research work was awarded an ERC Starting Grant (2010) and an ERC Consolidator Grant (2015) from the European Union. In March 2016, Ramesh took up a professorship at the Department of Molecular Biology, University of Geneva.
